Mantid Fly

Zeugomantispa minuta

Notes:

I captured a Mantid Fly (Zeugomantispa minuta) in Grandview, MO and have been keeping it for several days now! Strangely enough I am having a hard time finding reference to anyone finding one if Missouri before. I'm not sure if it is of interest to anyone but I wanted to put it out there just in case. Here are some facts for anyone interested. I feed it tiny flying bugs that I catch off my porch light at night. I wet a cotton ball so it has water and keep it in a praying mantis pagoda I purchased years ago. Every year or so my daughter and I find a caterpillar, keep it until it transforms then let it go. Sometimes we find a baby praying mantis and at first thought this might be one however baby praying mantis do not have long transparent wings. It took a while to figure out what this was since I could not find any mention of them being in Missouri.
