Slug moth

Limacodidae

Description:

Limacodidae or Euclidae is a family of moths in the superfamily Zygaenoidea or the Cossoidea; the placement is in dispute. They are often called slug moths because their caterpillars bear a distinct resemblance to slugs. They are also called cup moths because of the shape of their cocoons. They are mostly tropical, but occur worldwide, with about 1000 described species and probably many more as yet undescribed species. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limacodidae...)

Notes:

Found it in Alathur, Palakkad District, Kerala, India

This looks like a slug moth caterpillar ( Family: Limacodidae). Here are some from India

There are also many other spottings from India on PN - they are so varied in appearance and change as they develop so, a little difficult to be specific. Very nice spotting Mr Vanur !
