Danaus Plexippus
Top: black with orange stripes and white dots around sides. Underside: black with orange stripes and white dots (underside is more vibrant).
Everywhere with a mild to hot climate.
Deceased monarch butterfly found in my garage. In great condition strangely enough; must have died recently. Unfortunately probably froze to death.

Monarchs are one of my favorite butterflies! Growing up in MN we had lots of milkweed plants on which the caterpillars would feast! Sad situation in your spotting, but beautiful! I've removed this spotting from the osteology mission as Emily requested. Thanks Bailey!
Hi BaileyKatz00,
Would you mind removing your butterfly spotting from the Osteology Mission? Osteology is actually the study of vertebrate bones. It's a detailed study of the structure of bones, the skeletal elements, teeth, morphology, function and disease. Osteology aids in identifying vertebrate remains with regard to age, death, sex, growth, and development. From what I understand butterflies have exoskeletons and not actual bones. Thank you for your understanding! :)
Hi BaileyKatz00, the scientific name for the Monarch is Danaus plexippus. here is a link for more info on this butterfly http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarch_but...
