Blaberus giganteus
This huge cockroach (4") came to the light sheet the lodge had set up. At one point, the roach flew off the sheet and came right at me and landed on my shoulder. I think it was trying to scare me away. I stayed, but shook off the roach very quickly.

Yes Yuko, it's fairly new but cockroaches arent all pests like most people in America think, most cockroaches live outside, and they are used as feeder insects, pets, and laboratories. So there are people (like me) who love cockroaches and want to spread the word that they are not all bad and just as fascinating and important on this planet as any other insect. There are expos where you buy/sell exotic insects people raise and newer varieties make it into the pet trade each year, the good thing is most roaches breed so fast there is no danger of wiping out species from over collecting wild specimens and they breed easily in captivity.
I had no idea there was the American Cockroach Society.....
great, glad it helped!
Keith, I checked out the roach forum you linked in the other picture and it looks like a nice match for giganteus.

Here in the US they are sold as food for pet lizards, but I keep them as pets.
Could be blaberus fusca, craniifer, or giganteus. You'll have to look online they are all very similar in looks but size varies greatly. Giganteus is the largest very long and males fly very well.
It sure has!
Project Noah has converted you:-)
This one actually is quite beautiful! (see what I mean?!) ;-)
