Juvenile male: although he was just growing in his red gorget feathers, he had no doubt that he was a male and was singing away. The Anna's is one of a very few hummingbirds that sing while perched. While singing, they pose and posture and turn their heads, as if daring someone to stop them. year round species up and down the pacific coast, surviving snowy and below freezing temps in its Northernmost range
