I am officially jealous now. Africa is one place I'd like to stay for an extended period of time

Yes, my suggestion was more for future reference. I am very spoiled, spending time in parks where I can get out of the vehicle and walk around!

too late now! Seriously, without picking it, I couldn't have gotten the back side as it was only a few inches from the ground. As we were in the vehicle I also couldn't see any leaves in the grass, although they had to be there.

What helps with identifying the Hibiscuses is apparently to get a photo of the flower showing the base of the flower (i.e. from behind), as well as a photo of the leaf shape.
