Mud Crab

Scylla olivacea

Description:

Body is rounded not a spiny edges with orange tip claws. back of the crab has a studs looking forming a U shape. These crabs can survive out of water for extended periods as long as they are kept cool. Colour varies from red through brown to brownish/black depending on habitat.

Habitat:

is found in mangrove areas from Pakistan and Taiwan to the Malay Archipelago and other Indo-Pacific regions.

Notes:

This is the most valuable local crab sold in markets,These crabs are caught in traps or hooked out of their burrows during low tide.They feed on a variety of animals, usually other shellfish which they crush with their powerful claws.
