Identifying colors: Brown, red, and yellow. General description: Fat, wide, fast, and flying. The American Cockroach, appears glossy, and carries a reddish-brown look, throughout its body. Even its wings, are the same color, and darker brown marks can be seen, at the center of its pronotum. The female has a shorter pair of wings, while the male's wings extend past his abdomen. They are very good flyers, though most humans see them running on floors, walls, and ceilings, more often than flying. Adults eat moist foods. Females lay about a dozen eggs at a time, and then carry them on there backs for a few days, unloading them in a dark area, where the eggs can hatch undisturbed. Nymphs, look like small versions of the adults, and in a year, grow to full size. Female life span, is at least a year long. Cockroaches, are mainly nocturnal, and will run away, when exposed to light. I saw an American Cockroach, resting on a hallway floor. It had a head, thorax, and an abdomen. It had two, filiform antennae. It had two, compound eyes. It had six legs. The legs were long, and lined with spiny-like hairs. It had two pairs of wings. The color of its body, was a reddish-brown color. This cockroach was alive, and able to move.

Habitat:

Cockroaches, live in a wide range of environments, around the world. Pest species, adapt readily to a variety of environments, but prefer warm conditions found within buildings. Many tropical species, prefer even warmer environments, and do not fare well in the average household. It is usually found in kitchens, hotels, bakeries, warehouses, etc. I went downstairs at 5:00 a.m. in the morning, and I saw an American Cockroach, resting on the hallway floor.
