Snake fly

order: Raphidioptera

Description:

An ancient species of predatory insect, with specimens found in amber dating back to lower jurassic period. They have an elongated prothorax, which creates the appearance of a long moveable neck, but lack the modified forelegs found in the mantisflies and mantids

Notes:

I found her in a bucket of water and rescued, for which she tried several times to bite me. This is second time in a couple of weeks that I have found one in a white bucket - they must be attracted to the reflection.
