Neoconocephalus ensiger
Large, sleek katydid with cone-shaped head. Shape of cone and black marking on cone diagnostic.
Surrounding habitat was deciduous forest interrupted by suburban yards and gardens and agricultural fields.
This is a male specimen. The sing rather loudly. Coneheads feed on grass seeds and have very strong jaws to crack the seeds. I do not recommend handling these animals, at least not without caution.
