White nosed Coatimundi

Nasua narica

Description:

Member of the raccoon family found in tropical and subtropical areas. It has a brown body with a white ring between the nose and eyes that it takes it's name from

Habitat:

Tikal national park, among the ruins

Notes:

We saw several in Tikal, and I suspect people do feed them despite signs asking for them not to be fed. This one wound its way toward us, and then away from us when we didn't offer food. I saw several small children walk right up to them, with parents only snatching the kids out of the way at the last minute(although I saw no sign of aggression, I know they can be very aggressive, especially the lone males)
