A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Macaca silenus
,the lion-tailed macaque one of India’s endangered mascot species, is no longer on ‘The World’s 25 Most Endangered Primates’ list, after the international body compiling it determined that the State governments had acted positively to protect it.
Wicked primate! I've removed this from the Signs of Wildlife mission, as the wildlife is clearly visible here.
Awesome photo, Ashok!!
CONGRATS on SOTD!!
Glad to see he's making a comeback!! :)
Gorgeous capture Ashok N Pulliyerengi, congrats on the SOTD and thanks for sharing
Congratulation on a well deserved SotD, it is an absolute pleasure to see this endangered being in its natural environment !
Congratulations Ashok, this beautiful primate has been chosen as spotting of the day!
The striking lion-tailed macaque is one of the smallest and most endangered of the macaque species. They are becoming increasingly rare, mainly as a result of the destruction of their forest home. Only 1% of the original habitat remains today due to widespread deforestation for timber, agriculture and development.
