4-15 feet tall. spikets tawnu to purplish, with many soft hairs. borne on lawn spikes that form plumelike clusters. spreads by means of rootstalk that can grow 30 feet long. Plants form dense and enormous stands.

Habitat:

ponds, marshes, streambanks, ditches.
