Iridescent beetle, Just smaller than a penny
Piney woods, East Texas
This is a female Rainbow Scarab. Females of species P. vindex are difficult to distinguish from females of P. difformis. Both are found in Texas.
It looks like something from the genus Popillia, my first thought was Japanese Beetle but the pattern of colors is slightly different.
