Cinnamon fern

Description:

A large deciduous fern, with sterile fronds reaching up to five feet in length. Sori appear on a separate fertile frond that has a resemblance to a cinnamon stick, hence the common name. In the absence of the distinctive fertile frond, the fern may be identified on the basis of small white tufts where each sterile pinna attaches to the rachis.

Notes:

There is some debate as to whether the genus name should be Osmunda or Osmundastrum. (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osmundastr... for details.) I opted for Osmunda because that is what the USDA recognizes for the moment.
