Grey squirrel

Sciurus griseus

Description:

We came right up on this squirrel on a hiking trail and it was a little startled at first but soon showed that it's used to people. It checked us out to see if we had any food and looked like it would run up my aunt's leg (we rescued a squirrel once and she did that all the time).

Habitat:

Subalpine forest near a river, at about eight or nine thousand feet (2,440 to 2,740 meters).

Notes:

Pictures taken with an iPhone 5.
