Osmundastrum cinnamomeum

Description:

deciduous fern, maybe 48 cm tall, broad leaves, not quite bipinnate, fronds become cinnamon-colored, these are spore bearing stems

Habitat:

urban schoolyard, clay soil, afternoon sun

Notes:

even though its a plant you would see in swamps or bogs or woodlands it was planted here and seems to be drought tolerant
