Silky dogwood

Cornus amomum

Description:

This is one of several species of Cornus native to Virginia. Silky dogwood is a shrub rather than a tree. The four-petaled flowers are more conspicuous than those of the inflorescence of C. florida. Some people call this the red, white and blue dogwood because of its red stems, white flowers and dark blue fruit.

Habitat:

Moist open woods.
