Greater Whip Snake

Demansia papuensis

Description:

Growing to approx. 1.5m the Greater Whip Snake is fairly widespread in Australia's wet/dry Savannah's. Greater Whip Snake's are incredible fast but are generally shy and retreat quickly from people. The venom from a large individual is considered dangerous. My partner stumbled across this guy just as he struck a Giant Frog on the drying edge of a billabong. After a few minutes of the snake dragging the frog along the ground (presumable somewhere safe to eat him) the frog put up a fight and succeeded in hopping a short distance away.

Nice shots Vinny ! He is quite long and slender isn't he. I assume the frog would have died.
