Turkey vulture

Cathartes aura

Notes:

We have a family of vultures that nest in our neighborhood every year. This one was an early arrival, munching for several days on an opossum killed by a car. They circle the area every morning when setting out to scavenge and every evening before roosting for the night in the copse of trees across the street. They nest in a hollow on the ground, or sometimes in decrepit buildings.
