Description:

red and black beetle with a squarish shape and long legs 5mm to 7mm

Habitat:

it had climbed into the specimen bucket and followed me home

Aporocera seems a bit of a stretch. I couldn't see a good reference to double check it

That's a good one. Keith's suggestion looks pretty right but I had no immediately specific luck.
