A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Someone suggested that this might be a 'Spitfire' ... but I don't think it is. Actually, it's the biggest Caterpillar I've ever seen.. hence the pen to get a check on it's size. That day there were about 5 of them that I noticed in the immediate area.. but only this one made it up this tree to safety.. the others all got caught by ants, which is rather sad, but that's natural selection for you. I expect that it was the very very hot dry day that we had that triggered them all, coming from the ground to go into the trees, he moved very quickly too, about 2m a minute over rough ground.~AB

Welcome to Project Noah, Andy! This is amazing - it looks innocuous until you see the second pic with the pen. It's huge!!! If you want to do some research and find an ID, this website is a great place to start: http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au...
