Most likely the small Asian mongoose (Herpestes javanicus) since it was introduced in the 1800s to reduce the rat population in the sugar cane fields. But it seems it back fire as they tend to reproduce rapidly and eat also birds and bird eggs causing a reduction in some species of birds.

Mongoose, you need to check which species you get there.
