Description:

Oxalis is by far the largest genus in the wood-sorrel family Oxalidaceae: of the approximately 900 known species in the Oxalidaceae, 800 belong here. The genus occurs throughout most of the world, except for the polar areas; species diversity is particularly rich in tropical Brazil, Mexico and South Africa.

Interesting observation Jemma, we are fortunate this side, where we have both colours. Think it is more related to the species though, as they are very distinct..ha ha obviously not so distinct that I can ID it! Very interesting that there are over 900 species!

The contents of the soil probably give the colors to the flower. Maybe the African soil is high in Manganese?Our Sorrel out here are Yellow.
