End-Band Netwing Beetle

Calopteron terminale

Description:

A jumble of netwing beetles - getting ready for mating, would be my guess. Found near the end of the summer on the Konza Prairie Nature Trail outside of Manhattan, Kansas.

Notes:

They are apparently a pretty unpalatable beetle to most predators, and have inspired a number of mimics among moths and other beetles.
