Polypodiopsida
Can a fern be identified in its early stage? I need help identifying what species this is. Negros Oriental, Philippines
Hi kirkybit, thank you for updating this spotting. It looks much better, even if the ID is rather "basic". I will take a look at some of your other spottings.
Hi kirkybit, I don’t think that there is any chance of a complete identification of your fern. All we can be sure of is that it is a “Fern” which is a plant in the Scientific Class Polypodiopsida. So, I suggest that you edit your spotting to show the Common Name as Fern and the Scientific Name as Polypodiopsida. You can put https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fern... In the Wikipedia reference box and https://www.fernsoftheworld.com/fow_coun...... In the reference box below Wikipedia. I think that will make your spotting as complete as possible. Once you have done that, please take a look at the fernsoftheworld.com link it shows all of the ferns in the Philippines and I am sure you will enjoy looking at them. It will also help you to identify any other ferns, in future spottings.
Hi kirkybit, that is a very nice photo of the fiddle-head of a fern. Did you get any photos of the leaves or the other ferns in the group? (I'm sure you know that you don't normally see just one. They tend to grow in large groups). The more information you can provide, the greater the chance of an identification. Even if you don't have more photos, you will still remember how the whole fern looked. So, you might want to try searching something like "projectnoah.org spottings philippines ferns" and maybe you will see some other Project Noah members' spottings. Also, Wikipedia has a very good article on ferns - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fern.... I hope this helps a little. Your spottings are really nice and I look forward to seeing some more. Don't forget, the more photos you can show and the more information you can provide, the greater the chance of getting a good identification. Happy spotting!
