"Funny" story about this one - I had had the White-breasted Nuthatch in the yard for a while, and hadn't really paid close attention. Then I noticed that one's breast seemed a little redder than others, but not nearly as red as the Red-breasted Nuthatch in the guide books. It was really much more buff than red. Then I took a look back through pictures from about a month earlier, and sure enough, my little Red-breasteds had been around for a while! Teaches me to not just assume about the species because one is more common and has been around for a while!
