Ophrys mammosa

Ophrys sphegodes subsp. mammosa

Description:

A very variable species with a wide distribution in eastern Mediterranean. It belongs to a group with many members which are mixing and generate great confusion in their identification. Undivided lip, pseudo-eyes and stigmatic cavity coloration and lip length (12-17mm) are keys of differential diagnosis between species of the group. Ophrys mammosa has black shiny pseudo-eyes and generally black stigmatic cavity.
