White California Poppy

Eschscholzia californica

Description:

The California Poppy, besides being the state flower, is also in my opinion the quintessential wildflower of the state. The flowers are typically orange, with some fading from orange to yellow. This specimen sporting white flowers is expressing a rather rare genetic makeup, where the typical orange color is not present. The small beetle was actively exploring the flowers for nectar while pollinating them.
