Eastern Cottontail

Sylvilagus floridanus

Description:

This is a picture of a rabbit in my back yard. The angle of the rabbit isn’t great as it blends in with mulch, but you can see it’s right black eye. The rabbit is located towards the left of the screen.

Habitat:

The rabbits habitat is woods, forests, or grasslands. They are usually okay in all temperatures, though probably not as common in the winter with the cold. They usually make holes by tunneling underground.

Hi 20zrozgonyi! If you agree with my ID suggestion, you need not make one on your own spotting. You can simply click "Edit this spotting" below your photo and update the name fields. If it is on someone else's spotting that you agree with an ID on, you can just click the "+1" button on their suggestion.

Hi 20zrozgonyi! Oryctolagus cuniculus is the scientific name for the European rabbit. In Maryland you have Eastern Cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus) for wild rabbits. Unless you find someone's escaped rabbit, you are not likely to find any other species.
