Tree Ant

Subfamily Pseudomyrmecinae, Tetraponera punctulata

Description:

This is the only photo I could get of this curious long thin ant to 6mm long. As it was walking along it would bend its abdomen to 45 degs, then straighten. I observed a second individual doing the same thing, so it wasn't an isolated observation. They were hard to photograph as they were always on the move.

Habitat:

Edge of forest at James Cook University, Cairns QLD
