Striped Skunk

Mephitis mephitis

Description:

Black mammal with white stripes down back and tail. This skunk first appeared to be curled up sleeping so I took a quick photo. Normally, skunks crawl into their den in the morning for the day. Unfortunately when I returned an hour later, it was still there unmoved. It seems that it was hit by a car and died in this location.

Habitat:

Residential street curb. This species is found throughout the US, southern Canada and northern Mexico.
