A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Erinaceinae
Two of my hedgehogs, the left is female and the right is male. They do not shoot their quills and they are like a bed of nails. Press on one- ouch! Hold all of them, doesn't hurt at all. Feels like straw. These are funny little creatures that I absolutely adore.
Live in captivity, 4 foot by 2 foot enclosure for each hedgehog. Hedgehogs in the wild live in plains where they can find berries and insects.

Do you see them frequently?
Leuba, oh yes- I've heard hedgehogs are actually considered pests in NZ!
Welcome to Project Noah, Abby Ccga,
I hope you like the site as much we do; there are many features you can explore:
I invite you to go to http://www.projectnoah.org/faq where you will find the purpose and “rules” of Project Noah.
There is a blog http://blog.projectnoah.org/ where we post articles from spotters with special insight into different organisms.
There are also the chats for help with identification, and to comment on your own and others’ spottings.
Look at the global and local missions to put your spottings into:http://www.projectnoah.org/missions
Enjoy yourself here, see you around!
Thanks Abby. I don't think hedgehogs are allowed as pets here in Oz because of the danger they pose to native fauna. I think New Zealand is having a massive problem with them.
Leuba, in some states in the U.S. they are legal as pets! I have three pet hedgehogs. I'm not sure where you are located, but if you do some research you should be able to find out whether you are able to be a hedgehog parent. :)
Are these cute creatures pets ??
Thank you, Stephen!
Cute little creatures.
