found in cold to temperate waters, 8°C to 24°C (46°F to 75°F), of the North Pacific Ocean. They typically inhabit offshore, oceanic regions

Notes:

The photos are horrible, but it is a first spotting and an animal I didn't even know existed. At first I thought these were sea lions because they had no dorsal fin at all. I just saw a black banana jump out of he water for less than a second. Then in one photo I saw it had tail flukes leading to ID
