Spotting

Description:

We found these on the leaves of trees near a woodland pond. We see them every spring around here. I may have posted this under the wrong category. They look like some kind of galls. I am wondering if there are insects in them or if they are some kind of disease of the tree. The photos show the top and underside of the leaves.

Habitat:

Found on the leaves of trees near a woodland pond.

Thanks Leonard. I'll go back and try to identify the tree. My guess right now would be some kind of elm or beech, but I'm not sure.
