Common names include catbriers, greenbriers, prickly-ivys and smilaxes. "Sarsaparilla" (also zarzaparrilla, sarsparilla). This was in Wikipedia also. So you are in the ball park. I know it just as Smilax when I work w/ it at a Preserve I vol at down here in FL.
