Western Scrub Jay

Aphelocoma californica

Description:

The western scrub jay has bright blue coloration extending from above the bill over the head, and down the back.They also have grayish plumage on their backs. The more blue than gray plumage indicates an older age. Birds from coastal populations tend to be more brightly colored than those occuring further east.

Habitat:

Their natural habitat is scrub oak, pinyon pine, and juniper woodland
