Small plant with a sporophyte generation in which wind blows its seeds carried by a parachute-like structure. Not much foliage on the main bulk of the plant.

My tortoises love to eat these: leaves, stems, and all! Please describe Tecolote Canyon habitat for people not familiar with San Diego, and multiple photos that allow you to get flowers and leaves in focus would be great.
