Description:

A perennial tufted plant, with slender, leafy stems, that bears loose, much-branched clusters of large, delicate, sky blue flowers that bloom all summer. The flowers, funnel-shaped when they open in the morning, flatten as the day progresses and are dropped the following day. Height: 1-2.5 ft (0.3-0.8 m).

Habitat:

Dry prairie. Collin County Adventure Camp is a branch of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas and an ACA accredited facility and program. Explore the unique environment of the Black Land Prairie in our Outdoor Education program.

Notes:

Blue Flax was discovered by Meriwether Lewis on the Lewis and Clark Expedition in the late 1700's, hence the species was named "lewisii".
