Spider Mite

Description:

About a quarter inch in diameter - one of the biggest mites I've ever seen. Bright red and very quick.

Under a rock in the garden.

This is not a spider mite (Tetranychidae) which are herbivores, but a true velvet mite (Trombidiidae), which are predacious as adults.
