Vombatus ursinus tasmaniensis
Nicknamed the BULL DOZER of the BUSH. The Common Wombats that live in Tasmania are slightly smaller than mainland wombats. They have a rounded head and large bare nose which is shiny black with granular skin. Relatively small triangular ears, slightly rounded. Fur is coarse and thick, bristle like with little or no underfur. Colour ranges from sandy to brown, black and grey. Belly and throat areas usually lighter. 90 - 115cm lenghth. 36cm height. Small tail 2.5cm. Average adult weighs 22-39kg
They seem to prefer wetter forested, rocky regions that are cooler.
Sorry for the photo quality but it is really old.

Argy, I was on a walking trail at about 4.30pm and there he was! Could not believe my luck but as you can see the photo quality is not good because of the light at that time of day. He was not at all perturbed by us being there.
Aww!
Nice spotting Kerry. I tried to snap these guys a while back with no luck. It's always right on dark when they appear and my flash wasn't working.
