A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Aspidoscelis sexlineatus
This lizard was at the edge of a trail in Willian Beardall Tosohatchee State Reserve in Christmas and would run into the vegetation when frightened.
Sounds so exciting. Let"s see what I will be able to see in new surroundings.
Hema, I went to Orlando Wetlands and saw Roseate Spoonbills, eagles, Sandhill Cranes and lots more. Not far from there I went to Willian Beardall Tosohatchee State Reserve and saw about 6 Swallow-tailed Kites. I also went to the Disney Wilderness Preserve and got to see a Red-cockaded Woodpecker.
Thanks again.
I am thinking of Vierra wetlands, Gatorland, Disney Wilderness preserve, Meritt island,Orlando Wetlands park, At least this is what I would like to seee. I added your recommendations to the list too.
Hema, if you're just north of Ft Lauderdale around Boynton Beach, there's 2 places that are nice. Green Cay Park has a nice boardwalk system through the marsh and bird feeders up front with Painted Buntings. And Wakodahatchee Wetlands is 3 miles away and also has a nice boardwalk through the marsh and nesting herons, egrets, wood storks, Ibis, and Anhinga not far away at eye level.
I used the book A Birders Guide to Florida by Bill Pranty to find different places to go in Florida. There's a bunch listed in the book for the Orlando, Kissimmee area.
thanks,I will add that to the list. Being so far off in California, I am not sure what will materialize!
I will be in the same area as yours ,but with very limited time. Do you have any recommendations so that I can make the most? Any Wetlands? any reserves?
Hema, my trip to Florida was great. I didn't make it to Gatorland, but did see plenty of gators most places I went.
Tom,looks like you are really exploring Florida along the Orlando longitude/latitude?
Did you visit Gatorland?
