Chlorocebus pygerythrus
Vervets live in social groups ranging from 10–50 individuals, with males changing groups at the time of sexual maturity. Adult males weigh between 3.9 and 8.0 kg Adult females weigh between 3.4 and 5.3 kg
Vervets are the most widespread of the African monkeys and they adopt easily to many environments and circumstances.
In addition to being found in 39 African nations, one species of vervet is also found on the Cape Verde islands off the west coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean and on several Caribbean islands in the West Indies. Vervets are among the most used primates in biomedical research. Depending on the source, there are between four and six subpecies of the Velvet monkey.
