Bloodroot

Sanguinaria canadensis

Habitat:

Rich woodlands and along streams.

Notes:

Seen at the Tom Dorman Nature Preserve along the Kentucky River Pallasiades. I have seen this flower out as early as February in past years in KY, but this winter was more harsh than recent years, and seemed to last forever! Thought I had missed these beauties, but they are out in abundance now. The Indians used the roots of this plant to make a red dye.
