The White-Blotched River Stingray is a bottom-dwelling, freshwater stingray which inhabits the Xingu River basin in Brazil. Size: About 2 feet long. The body of this stingray is black to very dark brown and speckled with white spots. The underbelly is light gray. The white-blotched stingray is carnivorous and will eat crustaceans. It is threatened by habitat loss. This stingray has a venomous sting and though it is usually harmless to humans, it is one of the most feared freshwater fish.
This white-blotched stingray lives in captivity at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland.
