Pine snake

Pituophis melanoleucus

Description:

Juvenile male, well fed, probably about 2 years old.

Habitat:

In the Pine Barrens near an old building foundation. This foundation is a noted pine snake den and it likely hatched there.

Notes:

While this and one other male was sighted there were no females that week. Females tend to emerge later in many species and that could very well be the case here. The first female was spotted on the 18th.
