Thanks for the quick answer. Around here (restored river with flood plains) the ducks apparently hide their young, I haven't seen any in the last 2 years (still not giving up hope).
the mother hen in this spotting was feisty and was attacking the ducklings.

Ducks do not tolerate stray ducklings close to their own brood, and females kill small strange young they encounter.
