Urtica dioica
A herbacious perennial flowering plant. Small clusters of insignificant flowers. The plant has many small, stinging hairs called trichomes on its stems and leaves, predominately on the stems.
Trichomes give a painful, itchy sting which can manifest as a rash. Stinging nettle can be boiled and eaten! Once the nettle has been submerged in boiling water, the stinging effects of the nettle no longer apply.
