Hirudinea
This particular leech was attached to the back of a Red Eared Slider turtle.
Also, if anyone can provide better resolution on the taxonomy, please speak up!
It wasn't drawing anything through the shell. We found several leeches on several turtles, which would hook on just under the marginal scutes around the hind legs. This one was just cruising along.
Never seen one on a turtles shell before. Only ever seen them on the legs or other "sensitive" spots. Cool!
Is he actually getting something through the shell? Nice fat leech!
