Reddish carpenter ant

Camponotus castaneus

Description:

Not to sound too obvious, but it looks a lot like a black carpenter ant but reddish.

Habitat:

These ants were moving very fast over a clump of purple cudweed (Gamochaeta purpurea) plants. I'd love it if someone could tell me what they were up to!
